ENTREVISTA a Hiram López, del grupo Sagreveht, por su último álbum "Thanatology"

1. Hola, Hiram López, y bienvenido a Zeppelin Rock Magazine. Comencemos con algo simple: ¿qué desayunaste hoy? :) 

En realidad, algo muy característico y propio de México llamado nopal, que es una especie de cactus que comemos y está incluso en nuestra bandera. Y unos huevos también, ja, ja. 

(Hello Hiram López and welcome to Zeppelin Rock Magazine. Let's start from something simple - what did you have for breakfest? :)

Actually something very indigenous to México called nopal wich is a kind of cactus we eat and it's even in our flag! And some eggs also hahah).

2. Tu banda, Sagreveht, fue creada como un proyecto escolar y, después de 15 años, sigues aquí creando más música nueva y un nuevo álbum. ¿Cómo evolucionó tu banda en todos estos años? 

Bueno, en principio, el concepto fue el de una banda de heavy metal con letras divertidas y dejé el proyecto a un lado hasta el momento de esta pandemia. 

(Your band Sagreveht was created as a school project and here after 15 years you still here creating more new music and brand new album. How did your band evolved in all this years? 

Well actually I created the concept of the band wich was a heavy metal band with funny lyrics and I let the project aside for years until this pandemic).

3. ¿Puede contarnos más sobre el proceso de grabación de «Tanatología» y de dónde surgió la inspiración que tuvo para crear esta obra maestra?

No entiendo la parte de "obra maestra"; en realidad grabé todo en mi habitación cuando tuve cáncer durante la pandemia. Significó una manera de dejar salir la desesperación y no pensé demasiado en la música; las canciones eran solo ideas que estaban flotando en mi cabeza y las letras tenía detrás todo aquello de lo que disfruto o me interesa, como la psicología y las películas.

(Can you tell us more about «Thanatology» recording proces and the inspiration you had to create this masterpiece

I don't know about the "masterpiece" part but actually I recorded all in my room as I got cancer during the pandemic I needed a way to let the dispair out and didn't think much about the music too much the songs were just ideas I had floating around my head and the lyrics were just things I enjoy or have an interest about like psicology and movies).

4. En los últimos 4 meses desde el lanzamiento, su álbum llegó a muchas revistas de todo el mundo, ¿puede contarnos los comentarios que ha recibido? 

¡Ha sido muy positivo y me ha ayudado con muchas cosas que nadie ni siquiera imagina! ¡He tenido contacto con gente increíble de todo el mundo de lugares que nunca esperé! ¡Especialmente mi amigo Kostya de Glob Metal que me ha ayudado mucho!

(In the past 4 months since the release your album reached many magazines from all over the world, can you tell us about the feedback you receive?

It has been very positive and it helped me with a lot of things that one cound not eve imagine! I've had contact with amazing people around the world from places I never expected! Specially my friend Kostya from Glob Metal that has helped me out a lot!)

5. ¿Cuáles son los planes de la banda para 2022? ¿Quizás más música nueva o incluso una gran gira mundial? 

¡Ojalá las dos! ¡Tenemos muchas ganas de hacer una gira europea o sudamericana!

(What are the band plans for 2022? Maybe more new music or even a big wordwide tour?

Hopefully both!, we really are looking forward for making a European or south american tour!)

6. ¿Qué les puede decir a nuestros lectores sobre el presente del metal en México? ¿Cuántos conciertos ha tenido durante estos años de COVID? 

Casi ninguno, hasta los últimos 6 meses de 2021. En 2020 todo estaba totalmente cerrado, y yo también, así que no podía hacer mucho aunque hubiese querido, jaja. Y la escena del metal es muy grande; además  de que las bandas internacionales suelen obtener un gran resultado cuando tocan en México con la promoción adecuada. Nosotros, las bandas locales, por otro lado, generalmente tenemos que luchar más para crear una base de fans debido a muchos conceptos erróneos sobre este tipo de música o debido al simple menosprecio del público local a las bandas locales. Y, de hecho, tenemos una frase para ello "Nadie es profeta en su propia tierra". Aun así, el metal tiene aún un público masivo.

(What can you tell our readers about the metal scene in Mexico? How many concerts you had during this COVID years?

Almost zero, until the past 6 months of 2021 but in 2020 everything was totally shut, but so was I so I was not able to do much even if I wanted to haha. And about the metal scene is very very big, furthermore international bands can make a great outcome from playin gigs in México with the right promotion. We the local bands on the other hand usually struggle more to create a fan base due to a lot of misconceptions about this kind of music or due to simple disparagement from local audiences to local bands, and we actually have a phrase for that wich is:"No one is a prophet in his own land", but still the metal scene it's very massive).

¡Gracias por la entrevista! ¡Claro que sí! Existe una frase del discurso de graduación de Jim Carrey en MIU en 2014 que es: "Si vas a fallar haciendo algo que no te gusta, también puedes darte la oportunidad de hacer algo que amas".
